A stronger voice for our industry
As the advocacy body for the industry sector, ACFA welcomes feedback from the industry on relevant topics to help shape the sector’s future.
ACFA membership supports more than an individual business. It contributes to a stronger and more representative voice for Australia’s cabinetry, furniture, kitchen, bathroom, joinery, design, manufacturing and supply sectors.
With KBDi and AWISA as divisions of ACFA, we bring together a broader cross-section of the industry, from designers and suppliers through to manufacturers, installers and other industry professionals.
This combined knowledge and experience strengthens our ability to represent members and ensure our industry is considered when governments, regulators and other decision-makers develop policies, regulations and standards.
Representing the issues that matter
Our advocacy is informed by the real experiences of our members.
If a proposed law, regulation, standard or government policy is affecting your business, we encourage you to let us know. Real examples help us explain the practical impact on industry and advocate for workable outcomes.
Through regular contact with members, our Workplace Advice Team, trainers, Board and industry representatives, we identify emerging concerns and understand how proposed changes may affect businesses in practice.
We represent members by:
- consulting with government, departments and regulators
- preparing submissions and industry recommendations
- contributing to committees, consultations and standards reviews
- raising concerns about proposed laws and regulations
- working with other industry and business organisations
- keeping members informed about changes affecting their businesses.
Our advocacy priorities
Our work focuses on issues that affect members and the future of the industry, including:
- supporting Australian manufacturing and local employment
- ensuring imported products meet relevant Australian Standards and compliance requirements
- developing industry skills, apprenticeships and career pathways
- improving the recognition of qualified and experienced kitchen and bathroom designers
- pursuing practical building, licensing and design regulations
- supporting fair and workable workplace relations and work health and safety requirements
- protecting small and family businesses from unnecessary costs and regulatory burdens
- contributing to the development and review of industry standards.

- Home Warranty Insurance requirements affecting cabinetry businesses
- building practitioner and occupational licensing reforms
- kitchen and bathroom design qualifications and recognition
- apprenticeship mentoring, retention and workplace-based training
- workplace relations and work health and safety reforms
- construction standards and subcontracting requirements
- product compliance and Australian Standards
- government policies affecting small and family businesses
- support for Australian manufacturing.
Some advocacy matters can take considerable time to progress. ACFA x KBDi remains involved so our industry’s practical experience is heard and considered throughout the decision-making process.

Industry Representation
ACFA is proud to be representing the industry in a number of ways:
ACFA is a member of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Australia’s largest business representative network.
Through ACCI, we can contribute our industry’s perspective to broader national discussions on workplace relations, tax, manufacturing, skills and small business policy. This relationship helps provide ACFA and our members with a larger voice when matters affecting businesses are considered by the Australian Government.
ACFA also works directly with government, regulators, standards bodies and other industry stakeholders on matters specific to the industries we represent.
