Enhancing the skills within our industry

The Australian Cabinet and Furniture Association (ACFA) provides industry-focused training and professional development for Australia’s cabinetmaking, furniture, kitchen, bathroom and design industries.

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 90432), ACFA delivers nationally recognised apprenticeship training and Recognition of Prior Learning, alongside school-based pathways, licensing-related programs and industry-specific professional development.

Our training is developed with industry in mind and supported by trainers and assessors who understand the workplaces, machinery, skills and challenges of the sectors we serve.

Whether you’re employing your next apprentice, starting your career, looking to have existing skills formally recognised or developing your workforce, ACFA can help you find the right training pathway.

Australian Cabinet and Furniture Association (ACFA) has been delivering industry-specialised training for the cabinetmaking, furnishing, kitchen and bathroom industries for over 29 years using our workplace-based training model.

Training Designed Around Industry

Industry-Specialised Trainers

Our trainers and assessors bring practical industry knowledge and experience to the training relationship, helping apprentices connect nationally recognised training with the work they undertake every day.

Practical Workplace Learning

For apprenticeships, training and assessment take place in the workplace wherever appropriate, allowing learning to reflect real machinery, equipment and work activities.

Flexible Delivery

Different programs use different delivery models. Depending on the training pathway, ACFA may provide workplace-based, online, self-paced or blended learning and assessment options.

Connected to Industry

As an industry association and Registered Training Organisation, ACFA remains closely connected to the businesses, employers and professionals that make up Australia’s cabinet making, furniture, kitchen and bathroom industries.

Sheridan from DSA Kitchens & Joinery

We have had a fantastic experience with ACFA in general for our business side of assistance and their training services for our apprentices.

In particular, Liam has been an excellent trainer, he is extremely approachable, knowledgeable and accommodating, and has a great ability to communicate and teach in a way that our apprentices
understand and respond well to.

Liam takes the time to explain things properly, answer questions and ensure our apprentices are gaining a genuine understanding of their trade, rather than simply ticking boxes.

His practical knowledge and experience are evident in the way he delivers the training, and our apprentices feel comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance when they need it.
We have found ACFA to be very supportive and easy to work with, and Liam has been a real asset throughout our apprentices’ training.

We would have no hesitation in recommending ACFA and Liam to other businesses looking for quality apprenticeship training and support.

Apprenticeship Training

ACFA takes pride in its commitment to empowering the next generation of our industry through apprenticeship training and providing a pathway for upskilling our workforce. ACFA’s workplace-based training model offers a personalised and flexible approach that sets us apart from other providers.

How Does ACFA Workplace-Based Training Work?

For apprenticeship training, ACFA brings structured training and assessment into the workplace.

Our trainers travel to visit your workplace regularly  to work directly with apprentices and employers, allowing practical skills to be developed and assessed using the machinery, tools, materials and processes apprentices work with as part of their everyday role.

Workplace training is supported by structured online learning, individual training plans, trainer contact and ongoing communication between the apprentice, employer, workplace supervisor and ACFA trainer.

This approach keeps the workplace central to the apprentice’s development while ensuring training and assessment meet the requirements of the nationally recognised qualification.

ACFA has a proven track record in delivering high-quality education. Our primary qualification is MSF30322 Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology. This qualification encompasses specialised streams in:

  • Furniture
  • Kitchens & Bathrooms
  • Wood Machining

What makes ACFA stand out is our commitment to one-on-one, hands-on training provided by our Industry Specialised Trainers. These trainers not only customise training plans to match each apprentice’s own learning style but also work flexibly to accommodate the employer’s schedule whilst ensuring the training meets the requirements of the accredited training.

ACFA is one of the largest private RTOs for Cabinet Making in NSW, and we strive for excellence in Vocational Education & Training and aspire to actively encourage our new Apprentices / Trainees to exceed industry expectations so they can reach outstanding success, showcasing the many skills of their chosen industry craft. With an established and integrated network of support services, our training programs ensure that your employees are:
